The O-soji Ritual: A Japanese Guide to Welcoming the New Year
In Japan, the end of the year is dedicated to O-soji (The Big Cleaning). It is more than just tidying up; it is a spiritual practice to purify your home, your body, and your spirit to welcome the luck of the coming year.
Follow these four steps to create your own sanctuary for 2026.
Step 1: Purify the Space
"Sweep away the old year."
Before we can invite new energy, we must remove the old. Leave the noisy vacuum cleaner behind and embrace the quiet rhythm of a traditional Japanese Broom.
The Ritual: Gently sweep the dust—and the stagnant energy of the past year—out the door. Create a clean, blank slate for your home.

Step 2: Purify the Body
"O-soji for your skin."
Just as you polish your floors, you must also polish yourself. Wash away the year’s fatigue with our artisanal brushes.

Step 3: Purify the Spirit
"Tune your vibration."
Now that your space and body are clean, shift the atmosphere. Engage your senses of smell and sound to create a sacred boundary.
Hinoki & Sprays: Fill your room with the scent of ancient Japanese forests (Hinoki Cypress) to calm the mind.

Candle & Orin (Bell): Light a candle for hope and strike the Orin bell. Its clear sound cuts through mental clutter and purifies the air.
Step 4: Welcome the New Year
"Invite the Deities."
The stage is set. Your home is now a pure sanctuary, ready to welcome the Toshigami (New Year’s Deity). Display these traditional symbols to lock in good fortune.
