KAAN designs with care for the relationships between materials, processes, the environment, and the people who use its products. Every piece is made locally in the Garment District. Since 2022, the brand has been run by two friends: Anna Pang, originally from Canada, and Akari Cassidy, originally from Japan.

The Foundation
Kaan began not as a business plan, but as a return to the pure joy of making. During the lockdowns of 2020, with limited resources and a self-taught approach to sewing, the signature bucket tote was born. Seeking a way to create something functional without complicated patterns or specialized trims, the design was stripped back to its simplest form: four rectangles. What started as a personal practice in making—born from the skills and materials on hand—began to resonate with others. That organic connection and the beauty found in structural simplicity ultimately became the foundation upon which Kaan was built.
Anna Pang
Originally from Toronto, Anna moved to New York to study fashion design at Parsons and went on to hone her craft across contemporary and ready-to-wear brands, including The Row and Assembly New York, before launching her own womenswear label, Index Series. Her experience in fashion has shaped an appreciation for design that’s rooted in longevity, thoughtful construction, and a sense of purpose rather than fleeting trends.
Akari Cassidy
Akari holds a Master’s degree in Fine Art from Tama Art University in Japan. Her career began as a junior high school teacher while actively participating in an art collective, where she toured for live painting and worked on collaborative film projects. She later transitioned into advertising as a Creative Director, managing the full process of brand building—from logo and package design to the logistical planning and execution of events and pop-ups. In 2016, she founded SASAI Jewelry to return to a more tactile, hands-on practice, and since 2022, she has co-led the thoughtful evolution of Kaan Bags.
