About the Work
Taku Akihiro creates sculptures with a unique perspective on familiar objects, emerging from a local-based approach. His “migaku — polish” practice extends across wood, stone, metal, and paint — each work an act of looking back at the foundation, stimulating the five senses, and adding color to daily life.
About Akihiro Woodworks
A woodworking group based in Kagoshima, Japan. Wood used for carving is dried for 3 to 5 years depending on thickness and species. By learning the cycles of local forests and pursuing shapes that suit each timber’s character, Akihiro Woodworks creates objects that carry the memory of the land.
