1616 Arita Japan

Arita-yaki, a kind of Japanese pottery, finds its roots in the ancient ceramics town of Arita, Saga prefecture.

In 1616, the Korean voyagers first introduced the art of pottery to Japan. Today, Arita still produces ceramics made by local craftsmen using the distinctive ingredient of clay made from crushed kaolin, feldspar and other stones.

Inspired by the skills of local Arita craftsmen, designer and creative director Teruhiro Yanagihara developed a complete new ceramics brand for Momota–Touen Corporation. Named after its origins, 1616 / Arita Japan. It's vessels are capable for daily usage, made with extraordinary workmanship, thinness and strength of original Arita ware.

Note: Each piece is hand work by the artist, even the same piece will have a slightly different expression.
