Artist Description:
Teppei Ono
Born in Ehime in 1958. Ceramist based in Kami-shi, Kochi prefecture. Following time spent as an apprentice in Tokoname city, AIchi prefecture, he relocated to a terraced rice field area on the foothills of Kochi prefecture’s beautiful mountains. Creator of bold and reliable vessels for daily use which comfort the users. The vessels are inspired by the simplicity, warmth and rustic richness he nurtured within himself during trips to various Asian countries and India. His work is bold and laid back.

Recommendation Reason:
"I think I chose this profession to balance the impulsive violence within me with my mind."
A quote from one of his interviews left a lasting impression on me.
His work carries a sense of deep passion, as if it reflects his hopes for society. Shaped by his travels and encounters with diverse cultures, his individuality combines strength with a comforting warmth.

I love the beautiful color and brushstroke patterns; the weight and smooth, rounded shape fit perfectly in my hand, offering a reassuring sense of connection and the energy of the clay.

Personal Story:
This bowl is the perfect size for one-dish meals like salads or rice bowls. My favorite way to use it is for enjoying udon with plenty of soup—I just love soup!! It’s incredibly warming, and since it’s made of clay, it retains heat well. I also find it handy for holding popcorn on movie nights!

Message from the Staff:
At CIBONE, you'll find a variety of vessels from many different artists. We receive new shipments from Japan approximately every 3 to 4 months. Even if it's from the same artist, no two pieces are ever the same, so every time feels fresh and unique. Be sure to pick one up and find your favorite!
