After working as a carpenter and furniture craftsman, Shoji started his own business and opened his studio and store ""Crate"" in Kagoshima in 2007. Currently, he produces original woodwork and custom-made furniture.
The sculptural forms created by a technique called ""wood turning"" contains the dynamic beauty of nature. Using the lathe, Shoji searches for the most suitable color, texture and grain of the wood in order to create art pieces with the most beautiful appearance.
From his point of view, natural cracks caused by drying is a proof; trees are breathing as well. His art pieces made of camphor wood have a presence that changes the air and atmosphere.
