The pentagonal shape of the chopsticks ergonomically guides the fingers to the correct way to hold the chopsticks as the three fingers holding the chopsticks fit into the odd-numbered pentagonal surfaces.
This provides a sense of stability and comfort in use.
The “Togi-dashi” technique is a lacquering technique in which a middle coat of colored lacquer is applied and then a top coat of another colored lacquer is applied and polished out, so that the color of the middle coat can be seen to a good degree, giving the chopsticks a tasteful appearance.
Tekmoku (ironwood)
Native to Southeast Asia, this wood is resistant to water and has excellent workability and finish.
When ironwood is finished and then lacquered with wipe lacquer, it takes on a candy-like, subdued color.
It is one of the main materials used by Edo Wood Chopsticks for a variety of chopsticks.
