-Yuriko Morioka-
Her white porcelain is “raw” glazed, meaning that it is not fired unglazed, but rather glazed and fired as is. Her white porcelain is fired slowly and gently in a wood-fired kiln and then reduced.
Sometimes there are pinholes, swelling of the glaze caused by air bubbles generated from the fabric, and other ash effects (yellow sesame, kiln discoloration, etc.) that occur due to the firing in a wood-fired kiln.
She says she loves this fluctuation.
The combination of soft azure hues and gentle kiln changes creates the beauty of wabi.
The works are gentle but have a clear core, with the weight of a solid history.
Note: Each piece is hand work by the artist, even the same piece will have a slightly different expression.
