Product Description
The Turnip Motif (Kabu)
Lucky motifs
This botanical motif has been in use since the Edo period. In Japan, the turnip (kabu) is deeply cherished as a symbol of good fortune due to its auspicious wordplay.
The term "kabu" historically referred to the highest-ranking card (nine) in gambling, as well as to leaders or "bosses." It was also used in "Kabu-nakama," the merchant guilds that held exclusive trade and monopoly rights.
Linking the vegetable to these themes of high status, power, and prosperity, the turnip motif became a popular charm for success and thriving business.
