Oni sudare (devil's sudare) is an indispensable part of the Datemaki of Osechi cuisine. It is made in Japan from Kyushu bamboo.
One corner of the triangular base is firmly beveled to prevent the bamboo strips from rubbing against each other and cracking. A perfect triangle would cause the fibers at the corners to fray and crack.
