Yoshimi Taniguchi
Based in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan,
Yoshimi Taniguchi's vessels are made using a technique called "glass gray. In this technique, a concrete mold is used to blow the mold, and after removing it from the mold, the edges are cut and fired to smooth them out. The slight shimmering effect throughout the piece is due to the contact between the glass and the mold. The fine expression that remains on the surface therefore gives the vessel depth and flavor.
After cutting, matte gilding is applied to the rim, which gives the vessel itself a slightly glamorous appearance, yet the atmosphere is not gilded and gaudy, but rather accompanies the transparency, lightness, and delicacy of the glass.
