The Kiji Arita collection was born from an unexpected discovery — Dutch artist Sander Wassink stumbled upon a warehouse filled with forgotten, high-quality Arita porcelain pieces, nearly destined for disposal. Captivated by their craftsmanship and variety, he set out to bring these quietly exceptional objects back into the world.

Arita has long been celebrated for producing some of Japan's finest porcelain — diverse in shape, meticulous in execution, and deeply rooted in centuries of artisan tradition. This collection spans 11 forms: tea bowls, teapots, cups, small plates, and deep bowls, all unified by a shared spirit of quiet refinement.

A glaze inspired by nature.
The distinctive glaze of Kiji Arita captures the deep bluish-green of the Arita Dam, nestled among forested rocky mountains. Like the water itself, the color shifts with the season and light — sometimes deep green, sometimes cool blue-green. Each piece is further shaped by kiln temperature, placement, and airflow, making subtle variation not a flaw, but a defining feature. No two pieces are exactly alike.

Designed to be touched.
The exterior is finished with a matte texture that contrasts beautifully with the glossy interior — a deliberate pairing that rewards both the eye and the hand, and makes each sip feel considered.

Limited by nature.
Because the collection draws from discontinued porcelain forms, stock is finite. Once a shape sells out, it will not return. These are standard pieces made rare by time.

Sander Wassink is based at Sectie-C in Eindhoven, Netherlands — a creative space he co-founded in 2009. A graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven (2012), he works as an artist and lecturer, with guest appointments at institutions including the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture. His practice moves beyond objects, focusing on the meaning embedded in process itself — combining functionality, material, and concept into work that continues to evolve.
