Trabeko" is a traditional local toy from the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture, arranged in the shape of a tiger. Akabeko is a papier-mache doll in the shape of a red cow, and is known as a good-luck charm to ward off disease and evil spirits. The “Torabeko” doll is designed after the Chinese zodiac sign “Tiger Year” and the tiger, and features a yellow body with black stripes. The mechanism of the swinging neck is the same as that of “Akabeko,” and its cute movement is also attractive. These papier-mache dolls are popular as interior decorations and souvenirs.
