This is the fourth new collection from 1616/arita japan, a series by Danish designer Cecilie Manz. The theme of the collection is “CLAY” and focuses on the clay. Arita-yaki porcelain, which was originally considered to be white porcelain, uses iron-containing clay, which was never used in the past. The piece is composed of a combination of glazed and unglazed areas.
It was created after several years of meticulous verification and countless prototypes. Since the color is left in its natural state, the intensity of the gray varies from piece to piece. The shading is created by all kinds of conditions, including the position of the pieces in the kiln and sun exposure. Cecilie Manz considers these individual differences as part of the design as a rich expression.
This is a soft flat series with a gentle rim. The smooth curves are pleasing to the eye and beautifully complement food.
240 (24cm) and 210 (21cm) are main plates for serving main dishes. Main plates are usually 20 to 23 cm in length, so the 24 cm plate is a bit large. The 210 is just the right size for a breakfast plate, and can hold a piece of toast without cutting it into pieces.
The 180 (18cm) is a good size for shortcakes, doughnuts, cream puffs, and other sweets. It is also good for breakfast buttered rolls, baguettes, and of course, side dishes.
0Tenso ceramic stone porcelain clay (red clay) with a high iron content is used for the blended ceramic clay. This red clay is characterized by its ability to express warm, natural texture and color. Therefore, iron powder (black spots), uneven glaze, uneven color, and fire marks may occur on the surface. Also, due to the design, there will be some distortion due to the thinness of the rim. Please understand this in advance.
