Modern single-flower vase

Circle, square, cylinder.

Kumiki” is a series of flower vases designed by WAKA WAKA and produced by Karimoku.

This product was designed to modernize the traditional “tokonoma” (alcove) of the tea ceremony room. While the colorful colors accentuate the space, the grain of the wood, which shows through under the light colors, gives a moist texture of the wood.

Enjoy it close at hand

The materials used are Japanese cypress wood mainly from Aichi and Mie prefectures, and the Japanese tea ceremony room concept of “using what is close at hand” is evident in the materials used. Mr. Okuda of WAKA WAKA, who was in charge of the design, had long been interested in the spirituality of the tearoom.

He said, “I wanted to create a vase that would allow flowers, even if they are not from a florist, to be the star of the show, even if they are weeds or flowers found on the side of the road while taking a walk. I hope this single-flower vase will help people to enjoy a lifestyle that makes flower arranging a familiar experience for them.” I would like to propose a way of life in which people can enjoy arranging flowers and plants.

Okuda's design, which he hopes will be freely adapted to each individual's life without limiting where it is placed or what is arranged in it, teaches us the joy of using things.

Reassembling

The name “Kumiki” comes from the appearance of the single-flower vase, which resembles “Kumiki,” a wooden toy made of simple shapes assembled together. Although simple, they are designed with volume and detail to fit any space.

Some types can be reassembled in any order. Please enjoy the various expressions of the flowers according to the type, color, size, and height of the flowers, as well as the space, time, and season in which they are placed, along with your own ideas.

About materials, painting, and care
The material used is laminated cypress wood. The beauty and individuality of the grain of the wood can be enjoyed because it is made of natural wood.

There are four types: “SET VASE Kumiki,” “SET VASE Kikumi,” “SET VASE Kimiku,” and “SET VASE Mikiku.” Each wooden part is urethane coated, just like Karimoku furniture items. Although they are single-flower vases, if they remain wet for an extended period of time, the paint may lift, so if they are splashed with water, gently and gently wipe them off with a dry cloth.

Over time, the resin component (oil) of the wood may ooze out and change the appearance of the item, but this will not cause any problems in use.
