Mr. and Mrs. Takahisa Gunji and Ms. Keiko Gunji are a married couple who make pottery.
After both studied ceramics at the Tochigi Ceramic Institute, Mr. Gunji opened a kiln in Ashio-cho, Tochigi Prefecture (now Nikko City) in 2003, and began working together in 2004.
They began collaborating in 2004.
In 2015, he moved his kiln to Mashiko Town, Tochigi Prefecture.
At his home and studio at the foot of a mountain, Yoshiko is in charge of decoration, including painting and carving, while Youhisa is in charge of molding, such as using a potter's wheel.
While using different types of clay, they adjust the glaze and kiln temperature to achieve the color they desire, and are focused on creating vessels that harmonize form and color.
Because they are handmade, each one is slightly different in shape.
