Product Description
Aki Tamiya
Born in Tokyo. Established her career as a ceramist at Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture, and built her first kiln in 1996. During this time, she interacted with ceramist Seiichi Imanari and the late Ryo Aoki, deepening her artistic pursuits. In 1999, she completed a wood-fired kiln in Shizuoka, where she continues her work today.
Aki specializes in the "Yakishime" technique, an unglazed firing method that enhances the natural texture and rustic beauty of the clay, giving her work a raw, primitive appeal. She primarily focuses on creating jars and has also ventured into the field of flower arrangement, showcasing her vases in numerous exhibitions.
Note: Each piece is hand work by the artist, even the same piece will have a slightly different expression.
