Tohoku Crochet is based in Tono City, Iwate Prefecture, which is rich in nature.
Tohoku Crochet is a group of women from Miyako, Ofunato, Rikuzentakata, Tono, and other areas who specialize in knitting and handcrafts. It all started right after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011. When they almost lost the strength to survive, what started as a volunteer knitting workshop eventually became a source of hope for them, and they all grew to become professional knitters. Matsunoya has commissioned Tohoku Crochet to produce and sell their products in the hope that people throughout Japan will become familiar with their fine hand-knitting skills.
