This work is by Yoshihide Minamino, a contemporary artist living on Awaji Island.
Tabunoki (Tabanus tabanus) is described in the Book of Japan as “a tree in which a spirit dwells” and is said to have been closely associated with Shinto rituals since ancient times. It is also used as the main material for incense, and this incense burner has a soft and pleasant texture.
CUBE595 was cut from the thorn of the Yurayama Shrine on Awaji Island, which was destroyed by a typhoon, and was made to resemble the tree's original form, thus inheriting its life force.

YAMA is a piece cut from CUBE595 and has an upward trapezoidal shape.
The name is derived from the characteristics of its shape, which evokes a scene of nature.

Note: Each piece is hand work by the artist, even the same piece will have a slightly different expression.
