Akio Nukaga is a master potter, and an important contemporary face of Kasama ceramics. He began his career in 1989 at the Kōzan-gama kiln, before creating an individual base in 1993.

The technique called kohiki is used to apply white makeup to Kasama-yaki, which is red clay, and is thoughtful to the original texture of the clay.
The matte glaze and pleated work using clay ash (Dobai) are characteristic of this pottery, and its development overseas is also noteworthy.

Note: Each piece is hand work by the artist, even the same piece will have a slightly different expression.
