Product Description

A compact cast iron kettle for the daily ritual of boiling water — unhurried, deliberate, warm. The Yachitusa is sized for one or two, and shaped to sit quietly on the stove without demanding attention.

Made by OIGEN, a foundry with roots stretching back 900 years to the Nanbu Tekki ironwork tradition of Iwate Prefecture. Each kettle is formed by hand: sand molds packed by feel, molten iron read by color, heavy forms lifted with care. The iron improves with use, building a natural mineral layer that softens the water and deepens over time.

Specifications

  • Material: Cast iron
  • Capacity: 1.2L
  • Dimensions: W200 × D152 × H208 mm
  • Origin: Japan (Nanbu Tekki / Iwate Prefecture)
  • IH compatible: No — for use on gas stove or open flame only

First Use — Seasoning the Kettle

  1. Rinse the interior with water and bring to a boil. Discard the water. Repeat 2–3 times until the water runs clear.
  2. On the first few uses, the water may appear slightly brown — this is normal and will clear with continued use.
  3. Do not use soap inside the kettle.

Daily Care

  • After each use, leave the kettle on low heat for 1–2 minutes to evaporate remaining moisture.
  • Do not leave water sitting inside after use.
  • Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth. Do not use detergent on the interior.
  • If rust appears, scrub gently with a brush, rinse, and dry thoroughly over heat.

Cautions

  • For gas stove or open flame only — not IH compatible
  • Handle becomes very hot during use — always use a cloth or mitt
  • Do not use in dishwasher
  • Do not use soap or detergent inside
  • Keep dry when not in use to prevent rust

Note: Each piece is hand work by the artist, even the same piece will have a slightly different expression.
