This mug is crafted by drawing with a needle and applying colored slip, then peeling it off. The thick handle is surprisingly comfortable, and the mug has a pleasant rim for drinking.

About the Colors: "I use colored slips to achieve the shades in my pieces. This involves layering different slips, which then crack and peel as they dry, revealing the colors beneath, much like the drying and cracking of mud under sunlight, exposing past layers."

This piece is made by Katsunori Yaoita in Nagaoka, Niigata. After shaping the mug on a potter's wheel, the surface is coated with colored and white slips. As it dries naturally, the white slip contracts and cracks, slowly revealing the base colors and textures underneath, symbolizing the artist's emotions emerging from the form.
