In Japanese tradition, the whale is regarded as a symbol of wealth, abundance, a bountiful catch, and prosperity in business. Since ancient times, it has also been associated with Ebisu, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, and in some regions is cherished as a guardian deity and a bringer of good fortune.
